There is an unending offering of scenic staging for your special event. In addition to our beautiful stone and wood barn exteriors, there is a pond, a variety of flowering trees, gardens, and vegetation. Because a picture is worth a thousand words, please visit our photo gallery for inspiration. (Please note that as seasons come in and transition to the next, our photo gallery will be updated regularly.)
Nearly 250 years ago, William Gregg built a gorgeous stone barn on the property overlooking the pond and woods beyond. Today, it features all of the rustic beauty with some modern amenities, like the three vintage chandeliers to bring light and decadence to the occasion. Sylvanside's Stone Barn accommodates 125 guests comfortably, and can be a great venue for a wedding or a large reception prior to a sit-down dinner in the Sylvanside Poplar Barn.
The Poplar Barn takes its name from the poplar woods harvested from the farm's surrounding forest more than 200 years ago. It measures 200-feet long, which -- for many weddings -- means your guests could stand shoulder-to-shoulder and still not be able to touch the far wall. Sylvanside's Poplar Barn can readily accommodate up to 400 guests for a sit-down dinner or other event.
The structure has been updated with several large light-filled windows that open to look out onto the next generation of white sycamores and a cornfield of heirloom varietals. The Poplar Barn is lighted with circular brass chandeliers hang from the rafters on a pulley system to provide a range of lighting effects in the evening.
A slight misnomer, our "cottage" sleeps 8 in 3-bedrooms one with a bump out hideaway that has it's own twin beds and, each with its own full bathroom. There is a gas fireplace in the living room, a well-equipped kitchen, dining room featuring French doors that open onto a deck, and an all-weather porch. It is the perfect space for friends and family to get-away, reunite, and/or prepare for a celebration.
The Hunt Box
A couple's paradise. This private one-bedroom lodge is across the way from its bigger sister, Sylvanside Cottage. It also features a kitchen, full-bath, and hunt club-inspired den. The spacious bedroom overlooks both the Sylvanside's Stone Barn (south) and Sylvanside's Poplar Barn (east). If you're an early-riser, you'll enjoy stunning sunrises and dense mist blanketing the fields first thing in the morning. The large bay window offers a bench for you both to stretch out on and take your coffee while watching the horses graze.
Your hosts, Terri and Jeff, live onsite year-round to ensure that every detail of your stay exceeds expectations. Guests are welcome to enjoy the spacious and ambling front porch (the perfect place to have a cocktail or lemonade reception), the stunning formal living room with alcove, the dining room and the extensive kitchen as well as the library that overlooks the pond. Dressing rooms for the groomsmen and bridesmaids can also be made available for pre-event staging.
The last unique feature on the property is a special treat as you get yourself ready to say "I do" - a salon suitable for event-day hair and make-up and equipped with refreshments for the bridal party. You can hire your own team of professionals or feel free to select from our distinguished book of select service providers.
Our Four-Legged Friends
Sylvanside is home to our two Clydesdale horses, Blackjack and Phinn. They would love to join you in your photoshoot - or perhaps you want a photo of your stud with our steer, Rudolph! We also have three goats to tend to the 20+ acres of grass: collectively, they're known as John Deere; individually, they are Maggie, Pearl, and Agnes. While we've never asked if they're interested in yoga, we hear it's a thing and you're welcome to it (provided you sign a waiver).
Our winged friends are taking offense; of course, they are our friends too. We love them because they provide a constant supply of delicious - and sometimes, deviled -eggs. Protecting them, and every other living think on the farm, are our two dogs, Mosby (day shift) and Zoë (night shift).
Sylvanside Farm is four miles from the town of Purcellville, Virginia -- less than an hour's drive (50 miles) from Washington, DC and Dulles Airport (34 miles). We are also a stone's throw from Middleburg and its surrounding vineyards, breweries, and distilleries. We're happy to provide recommended tastings, restaurants, and local shopping.
Whether you are looking to host a one-day event or a weekend wedding, we are pleased to welcome you. We have a range of furnishings on site that include, but are not limited to: dining tables and chairs; elegant silk couches, grand tables for gifts and family tables, a buffet, cake display; china place settings.
We can also offer a preferred list of caterers, florists, photographers, stylists, and other service providers on request.
A picture is worth a thousand words and much of the photography on the site will help you vision your special event here. But even the best pictures don't do Sylvanside Farm justice, which is why we invite you to visit us and walk the property. Better yet, stay the weekend with us in the Hunt Box or the Cottage and enjoy the magical evenings that amaze us nightly.
